Gaudapada rejects no kind of knowledge or experience. Verses of the Mandukya Upanishad are traditionally associated with Verses of the Gaudapada Karika. The Sruti passage, Sftflff 3. With the cessation of the activity known as memory, 7 the perceiver in the waking and dream states is unified 8 with Prajna in the Akdsa of the heart and becomes 9 verily a mass 10 of consciousness, because there is, then, a cessation of mental activities.

Ranade calls the aphoristic style of Mandukya Upanishad as highly influential on the Sutras of Indian philosophies that followed it, and that the Upanishad has served as a foundational text of the major Vedanta school of Hinduism. Thus both experiences, having a beginning and an end, are unreal.

The non-cognition of duality is common to both Prajna and Turiya.

This dualistic understanding is seen by the non-dual philosophy of Advaita as being due to their their attention or discrimination being captured within creation.

The second chapter seeks rationally 15 to demonstrate the unreality of duality ; the illusion duality being destroyed, the knowledge of non-duality becomes evidentas the cessation of the imagination of snake, etc. Gaudapada’s influential Vedanta text consists of four chapters; Chapter One, Two and Three of which are entirely Vedantin and founded on the Upanishads, with little Buddhist flavor. The fourth chapter is devoted to the rational refutation of the other schools of thought which are antagonistic to the truth as pointed out in the Vedas and which are opposed to the knowledge of the Advaitic Reality, by pointing out their falsity on account of their own mutual 17 contradiction.

One cannot accuse a modern philosopher if he uses the arguments of modern science in order to refute the contentions of his opponents or establish his own position.

The kari,a fundamental problems of philosophy, according to this special upanishqd are, 1 the mahdukya of the external material and the internal mental worlds ; 2 the nature of consciousness ; and 3 the meaning of causality. Arjuna after realizing the Vedantic Truth did not flee away from the world, but girded his loins with fresh vigour and strength to discharge his duty svadharma.

For ; in the state of deep sleep, there does not exist, as in the two other states, any desire or the dream experi- ence whose characteristic is to take a thing for what it is not.
